DIRECTOR OF FOOTBALL
In 2007 the Committee decided it was important to have someone in the Club dedicated to improving the abilities of our players and coaches and created a part-time position of "Director of Football".
We’re very pleased to announce the appointment of Gordon Thompson to the position.
Known to many of you as the founding coach of the highly successful Rogues team, Gordon has a wealth of experience playing and coaching football both in New Zealand and England.
He says: I remember the joy of playing football as a child and watching my children play. I want every child playing for our club to look forward to the next training and the next game. To be bursting to be part of a team, to get on the field, and take part in the greatest sport on Earth. I believe that teaching kids the basics of passing, control and teamwork is essential to them fully enjoying their football. Coaches at the junior level are the cornerstone of the club and the sport. In this role I will focus on helping coaches — regardless of experience — to enjoy the challenge of teaching skills and team work.
COACHING
Greenhithe Junior Soccer Club needs coaches. Without coaches, our kids cannot play. With the number of children playing, and with smaller team sizes we need more coaches than ever – particularly for the midgets!
Our coaches are mums, dads, older siblings, grandparents and friends that are simply keen to be involved and give it a go! You don’t need to know all the rules in great detail – you just need to like children and be able to train once a week and attend games on Saturdays.
Coaches are provided with a full kit of gear for each team, training ideas and support. The club will also pay costs if coaches wish to attend formal coaching training.
Each year many of the coaches from the previous year ‘graduate’ with their older children so please strongly consider being a coach – sport is a great way to be involved with your children!
